NYC International Screenplay Awards Summer 2021
In-State placed as a semifinalist in the TV pilot category of this screenwriting competition. The script also received the following analysis from the judges:

"One of the most attractive features of the script is how the writer establishes the tone of the narrative with elements of absurdist comedy while remaining primarily in a world similar to the real. This creates an interesting juxtaposition between the absurdist moments and the realistic, creating a unique and engaging tone. The core concept can be discerned and summarized relatively quickly and contains novel elements that make the script stand out from others in the genre. The writer does not rely too heavily on dialogue for exposition, which allows the characters to speak more economically and creates room for subtext in the dialogue that the audience can pick up on through their understanding of the surrounding context. The script is easy to read given the language and formatting that the writer employs. Scenes flow smoothly from one to the next within the scope of logical action/reaction and scene transitions are not typically jarring or difficult to follow. The reader can easily comprehend the script and does not often feel the need to reread the script for clarity."
